Show and Tell Tomorrow

Although we usually have show and tell on Wednesdays, I forgot to remind the children yesterday so we will have show and tell tomorrow when all the children will have something to share.

Please remember that the children should not bring any electronics or irreplaceable items. There is always the possibility of it being broken or lost!

Important Notes

Today the math homework is a page from your child's math workbook, 'Show What You Know'. I have enclosed this page in your child's blue file today.

This page makes sure your child is ready to learn and understand the skills and concepts of Chapter 6.

**Please make sure you check the Arabic and Religion tab often as important notes from Ms. Shahenda are there.

** Please also make sure your child has enough water for the day. Lately, the children have been running out of water in the middle of the day.

** Today many children did not have enough food for the day. Please ensure you pack plenty of food or instruct your child what they should eat at what time. You can also label the food so I know what foods are intended for each meal.

**There was a blue jacket left behind today. It does not have a name on the label and was not claimed by any students. Please make sure all jackets are labeled with your child's name and class.

Thank you Parents!

Week 16 Update

In Language Arts, we read the book Snow several times during the week and discussed what animals do when it snows. We learned that verbs are words that tell us what something or someone does. As a class, we brainstormed verbs. Next week will will be adding the words you and what to our word wall!
In Math, we continued Chapter 5 and started to study tally charts. The children practiced reading and making their own charts. Next week, we will conclude Chapter 5 and start Chapter 6: Geometry and Fractions.

In Science, we focused on different kinds of land we find on Earth (sand, rock, and pebbles). We discussed the difference between rocks and pebbles.

In Art this week, the children decorated dolls in honor of Al Maweled Al Nabawy.

-We will be following the Week 2 menu this week.
-We will have show and tell on Wednesday.
- I will continue to send Family of the Month notices home but our classroom is always in need of the following items: tissues, wet wipes, and hand soap as we clean and wash our hands often!
-International Week is approaching (first week of February) and our class will be representing Italy!

Math Homework

For tonight's math homework, the children will make a 'Favorite Color Graph'. Since they can't ask their friends about their favorite color, it would be helpful if you could provide the data. Pick three colors and tell your child how many children like each color. I briefly went over the night's math homework so they might be able to do it on their own (and make up their own numbers).

Also, we will have another show and tell on Wednesday. The children can bring small toys, photographs and trinkets that are special to them. I will remind the children tomorrow.

Thank you Parents for your help!

Ms. Victoria

Week 15 Update

I hope everyone had a nice weekend and enjoyed the nice, warm weather.

Last week, we added two words to our word wall: with and my. We will continue to work with these words this week in Chapter 12 of Language Arts. We are also continuing practicing distinguishing the end sounds of words.

In Math, we started Chapter 5- Graphs and we will continue the chapter this week. The children are getting familiar with the new vocabulary: graph, row, column, fewer.

In Social Studies, we begun our unit on Egypt. The students painted a class poster of Egyptian symbols and landmarks that we will discuss in the following weeks.

The trip to Sitara Theatre was wonderful! The play was age appropriate and the children were constantly laughing. We discussed the story of Ali Baba before we watched the play and the children had no problem following the play. Two of the children even got to go up on stage and be characters in the story!

We are on the Week 1 Menu this week.

**Reminder: We do not have school this Thursday, January 24th in observance of Al Muled Al Nabawy.

Week 14 Update

In Language Arts, we reviewed Chapter 11 and began discussing end sounds. I re-read Jump into January and the children were very proud that they remembered some of the new vocabulary from the book! We have been working on beginning sounds since the beginning of the year and the children are very good with them. (Ask them, "How do you say ___ in two parts?") End sounds are more difficult to distinguish but we will practice, practice, practice!

In Math, we began Chapter 5 which is about graphing. We are beginning to work in centers, which allows me to work with children in small groups for math.

In Science, we began our unit Earth unit and discussed how Earth is made up of land, water, and air. We talked about things we find in the water and things we find on land.

*Tuesday will be Parent- Teacher Conferences. There will be no school for the children. Please sign and return the appointment slip as confirmtion so I can arrange for the day. Thank you to those who replied already!

** Monday is the last day to submit the permission slip and fees for the Sitara Theater trip! I would love all the children to attend but permission slips and fees will not be accepted after the due date.

I hope everyone had a great Winter break. Here's to a great second trimester!

General Reminders and Upcoming Events

It was so nice to see everyone back in school today!  I hope everyone had a great break and got time to relax- parents and children alike.

Due to low attendance and the short week, we will not have formal homework this week. I will send a book home with each child to read for the night. They may change their books tomorrow if they finished reading it and want a new one. Otherwise, the books will be due on Thursday. They will receive a normal homework packet on Sunday.

On Thursday, report cards will be sent home. Parent- teacher conferences will be on Tuesday, January 15th. I have sent home appointment slips today. Please sign the slips and return them as soon as possible to confirm.

Permission slips for our trip to Sitara Theater next week were also sent home today. Please sign the form and  send the money in as soon as possible if you would like your child to attend. I have heard from other teachers that the play is lovely and the children would enjoy it.

With the weather being cold and rainy, some children were out sick. If your child is sick, it is best to keep them at home so that they can get better and avoid getting others ill.

Thank you Parents for all you do,
Ms. Victoria
